Found Dead in the Red Head Page 18

In the silent night, I listened to the old building creak, upstairs blowing wind whistled through cracked window and cold seeped up from the basement.

With Myra’s plans for the building, she would breathe new life into the historic place. Maybe bowling balls and pizza ovens wouldn’t be so bad. A new dress shop next door would give us neighbors and more foot traffic.

Soon another Christmas would be past, and like wishing on stars, I don’t believe in making New Year resolutions. Keeping a resolution was impossible, especially for me, I can see a dead person. Technically, since Fanny blessed Belly’s passage to the Beyond, I can now see multiple dead people.

“Okay. I’m going now. Teddy’s waiting.” I paused by the backdoor, listening for a goodnight wish from Fanny, but she didn’t respond. Backing up, I pushed the security bar and went out the Row’s backdoor into the cold, crisp Arkansas night welcoming my new future.
